vista prices

Up until yesterday i was still slightly worried about whether people would start considering linux as a viable alternative to Vista.
The extra information i received was the price structure for Vista in Australia.
I am going to ignore the upgrade edition prices since it seems those are pointless unless you really really know what you are doing and have a computer less than 12 months old.
(what amuses me is the naming scheme and the sneaky prices on this brochure.)
price comparison of the different versions.

Home Basic Full Version $385.00
Home Premium Full Version $455.00
Business Full Version $565.00
Ultimate Full Version $749.00

MS Office 2007 Prices.
Home and Student $249.00
Small Business $749.00
Professional $849.00
Ultimate $1169.00

and just in case you still doesn't know
Ubuntu doesn't charge anything for its basic version and if you want a version with more software it takes 5 seconds to update your software repositories.
and the office software is still free and doesn't have crippled versions that are missing those bits of software you might need.

so if anyone is curious.
if anyone asks me to sell them a computer with vista on it i will be saying no since i really don't see the point in charging someone money for software that they can just as easily get for free and will be just as usable and useful (if not more useable and useful).
